Good bye to Islay + Inveraray

We said goodbye to Islay on a beautiful, sunny day. In the early morning the sun’s caress over the barley fields around our guesthous was so beautiful that I desired to have more time to spend there. I thank the universe with a huge namasté before leaving Skerrols House.
The sea crossing from Port Ellen was pleasant as well and before moving to Glasgow – which was our next stop – we took a couple of hours to visit Inveraray and the Clan Campbell’s estate since centuries.
If you are into Downton Abbey you’ll recognize the Inveraray Castle as the 3rd season’s Christmas Special episode location.
The castle is built in Gothic revival style and it is amazing for the rooms’s fornitures – especially the huge arms room and the dining room with the well known golden ship centrepieces donated to the Clan by the Queen Victoria – and the gardens. Moreover it is common to bump into the Duke and the Duchess during the visit because the castle is still the official residence of the chief of Clan Campbell and his family. Indeed, while I was buying a fridge magnet as a souvenir for my mum we actually met the Duke of Argyll himself at the castle’s shop: Torquhil Ian Campbell, 13th Duke of Argyll was working there as a cashier… And it was so exciting! :D
